All Your Laser Hair Removal Questions Answered
Given the choice, the only place most women would have hair would be on their heads and eyebrows and the rest would disappear into a cloud of dust, never to be seen again. Sadly that won’t happen any time soon so most women end up spending hours and hours of their precious time shaving, waxing, plucking and putting up with lots of painful treatments to remove unwanted hair.
The newer alternative to these painful treatments is laser hair removal but many women are skeptical about taking the plunge. They ask themselves if it's worth the price, if it is going to hurt, or if it really works anyway.
If you are thinking about trying laser hair removal for the first time then please read on as we answer some of the questions you may have about this treatment.
Can I Get It Anywhere?
Almost. Your eyebrows and other hair near your eyes can’t be lasered away, but any other places on your body are fair game. Most common areas are under arms, legs, arms, shoulders, bikini, buttocks, back, chest as well as upper lip, chin and sideburns.
Is Safe For Your Skin?
Prior to your treatment we offer a complimentary detailed consultation with one of our certified laser technicians to assess your goals and we will then let you know if they are realistic. For most people, having laser hair removal is a straightforward process.
Should I Shave The Area?
For best results you should shave the area you are getting the laser treatment on a day or two before your appointment.
What If I am Taking Antibiotics?
Most antibiotics make skin more sensitive to light so it is recommended that 2 weeks or more prior to your first laser removal treatment you stop taking the medication
Is The Treatment Painful?
Most people who get the treatment describe it feeling like having a rubber band snapped on their skin or tiny pin pricks quickly followed by a cool sensation. The more intimate areas hurt more and people with darker skin are more sensitive because they have more pigment in their hair and skin
After each treatment the hair becomes thinner and the pain becomes less. To help with the discomfort, we can apply a numbing cream if requested.
How Many Treatments Are Required?
This varies depending on the person. Everybody has different hair growth cycles, different hair colors and hair root depth. Typically the average number of sessions required for dark and coarse hair under normal conditions is between 6 and 8.
For light or fine hair more sessions may be required and areas of the body, such as the chin which are more hormonally controlled may also need more sessions.
Does The Hair Fall Off Right Away?
Usually you will see some hair fall off instantly after your treatment, but other hair will take up to 10 days to fall off. This is due to the fact that most hair follicles have more than one hair on them when the laser beam passes through the skin, it disables the hair follicle and that hair leaves the epidermis instantly while the hair under the epidermis can take between 5 and 10 days to leave the epidermis.
Can I Get it Done During A Lunch Break?
Getting a laser hair treatment is surprisingly quick, depending on the area and how painful you are finding it. Each zap of the laser kills a hair within a second and no area gets zapped twice so the whole process moves very quickly.
